At very short notice (the night before) we decide to join Les & Clare and Harvey & Wendy on an impromptu trip to Foxton Beach.  The weather looks good so even though we are just today back from a weekend away in the MX5 to Whangamomona along the Forgotten Highway we figure we can do it, so off we go.

Hooking up went more smoothly this time and packing didn't take long although we will need to go to the supermarket up there.  A good trip up SH1 saw us arrive at Foxton Beach before lunchtime.  Les and Clare have just arrived and are putting their bikes together to go for a ride.  I take myself off for an explore while Kim laxes back in the sun with his book.  Have a lovely walk along the new Sunset Walk and am surprised at the lovely big new houses built along the estuary.  There is still the odd bach here as well which is gratifying.

Harvey and Wendy have arrived as I get back so we are all now present and correct.  We drive into town to visit the new New World, built inside the facade of Whites Hotel. On the way we have a nostalgic trip down memory lane to find Vera's beach house in Nelson Road and to check out the beach.

It's a bit cold to sit outside for drinks so our van is party central for tonight.  After a very pleasant couple of hours telling lies we each head back to our respective homes to have dinner.  Space is a bit restricted for us to all eat together.  We'll plan something for tomorrow night.

The stars were brightly visible through our skylight, lovely to watch and we had a good night.  It was surprisingly warm too, only needed the duvet and had no heating on.

It was a bit cool this morning but didn't take long to warm up.  The sun was out to start but became a bit shy as the morning wore on.  Didn't stop us from having coffees in each van during the morning.  Early afternoon H&W and us head into town to check out the Flax Museum and the Windmill shop.  Kim is in heaven, coming away with a good haul of licorice.

The check out the RSA, but it is closed, until later in the week.

We are back at camp in time to meet up for drinks and take over the kitchen which has a big dining area we commandeer.  It's s bit frigid but the chill is soon taken off by turning the stoves on and L&C have a fan heater too.  It's a great venue, we take our drinks over and we all manage to eat together tonight too, a lovely evening. The moon is full and was very pretty arising from the clouds.

Oh dear, we are greeted with drizzle this morning, but it was another warm night.  We haven't packed up in wet before, but then again it's only our second outing,  My tip is to have a couple of old towels handy to stand on and wipe things down before they are stored inside.  Glad we brought our table in yesterday.  We are away before 10am, L&C decide not to stay another night and H&W were always leaving today anyway.

We get back to Lower Hutt before lunchtime without any issues and just one stop to turn off the main power supply which we forgot.  A nice drive, less than two hours so a good short hop for us.  Happy!
